Pilates at Life Physio + Rehab

Our instructors are University degree trained and have significant experience in teaching Clinical Pilates. Instructors are part of an integrated multidisciplinary team of health care professionals and work closely with our Physiotherapists to provide comprehensive patient care.

We recommend clients have an initial assessment with one of our Physiotherapists or Exercise Physiologists before starting a program. This assessment will focus on posture, previous and current injuries and strength ability so as to identify your specific areas for rehabilitation.  A safe, appropriate exercise program is then individually designed to address the client’s needs and goals. We use real-time diagnostic ultrasound imaging to teach correct ‘core’ muscle activation to ensure safe implementation of your Pilates program.

Classes are small (1-3 persons) and exercises are performed at an individual level, not as “one big group” as often seen in large gym environments. Close supervision of your program enables us to minimize any personal risk to you and facilitate the best possible outcome from your individualized program.

Home exercises are encouraged to maximize the benefits of your supervised studio session.

GALILEO WHOLE BODY VIBRATION

No matter how young or old you are and irrespective of your level of fitness, the Galileo offers individual exercise opportunities for everyone. The whole body or a part of the body can be stimulated and trained.

The Galileo consists of a vibrating platform that the user lies, kneels or stands on to performs exercises or stretches. In standing, the movement of the plate stimulates the body’s natural “stretch reflex” which causes a spontaneous muscle contraction – this occurs at an intensity and speed that is not possible with purely a conscious contraction.

This stimulates muscles in a manner that promotes their rapid development which assists in achieving training or rehabilitation goals more effectively and efficiently.

Whole Body Vibration may be used to improve:

  • muscle strength and performance
  • balance and coordination
  • flexibility and agility
  • core stability
  • postural control
  • bone density
  • age related risk of falls
  • circulation
  • pain

Significant effects can be achieved with an exercise time of only 8-15 minutes, 2x per week for 4-8 weeks, depending on your condition and goals.

The Galileo is best used as part of a specific exercise program to help achieve your training goals

Extensive scientific research has been conducted on the efficacy of this approach. Whole body vibration is now used widely within physiotherapy, gyms, elite sporting clubs, by individual sportsmen and rehabilitation facilities across Australia, Europe and the USA.
